Event Description

Food Connect will be heading to the verdant fields of the Lockyer Valley for our next farm tour on Saturday Aug 24. This tour will help celebrate Fair Food Week by introducing you to our raw honey supplier Phil and Robyn Dunlop and the certified organic farm of Rob Bauer and Trude Townson.

We will begin our tour at Dunlop Apiaries at around 9:30/10am for morning tea followed by picnic lunch half an hour down the road at the Bauers.

Phil and Robyn have been supplying Food Connect for years. We all enjoy their rich natural honeys on toast, in tea and the odd slice cake. Phil has many hives, which he moves between locations within Laidly to help other local farmers with their pollination. Depending on where the bees’ hives have been located, you get different tastes of honey, for example ironbark, mixed blossom or bloodwood. The honey you can order from us is in its raw unpasturised form – straight from the bees.

The Bauer family farm is situated in the heart of the Lockyer Valley (one of the top ten most fertile farming areas in the world). Their 363 hectare property, made up of 5 mostly-adjoining farms, grows a wide range of vegetables and is Queensland’s largest producer of certified organic veggies.

Farm tours are a great way to introduce yourself to the person who supplies you with the produce and products you know and love from your weekly order. It’s a chance to ask the questions you want to ask directly to the person who is producing them, it’s also an opportunity to thank them for all their hard work.

We encourage people who attend our farm tours to bring along a small gift for the farming families we visit . This could be a drawing, a bunch of flowers from the garden or a yummy homemade treat. Not necessary but a lovely gesture.
