Event Description

Climate change may disrupt global food system within a decade, World Bank says.
As part of national Fair Food Week — 10-19 October 2014, we are hosting a guerilla conference around the future of food at the South Fremantle Farmers Markets on 12 October.
We aim to make this event as simple as possible, with short presentations by invited experts and food start-ups, followed by discussions around possible futures of food, and how we can build resilient food networks.
SPEAKERS (so far… more will be announced):
Peacetree Permaculture provides climate and water sensitive design and education for the South West of Western Australia and other Mediterranean climates. They specialise in the design and creation of ‘edible forest gardens’ which mimic the structure of the vegetation communities in these ‘brittle landscapes’.
Renée Gardiner – Growing Change
A social enterprise in development, focused on addressing food insecurity, waste inefficiencies, growing local and community resilience and creating sustainable local food systems within a globalised world, while addressing issues of poverty, social disadvantage, isolation and inequality.
Futurist who recently developed three scenarios for the Western Australian Agrisector in 2025 together with the economists and the communications teams at Department of Agriculture and Food WA.
Ben Foster – Black Soldier Fly Waste Management
Inventor of a self monitoring “organic digestion” bin that processes organic food wastes directly on site. The byproducts are compost, fertiliser and animal feed. Essentially, what would normally be sent to landfill is now something any local garden is happy to get more of.
Shona Anne Hunter, The Hidden Pantry
Founder of Western Australia’s only organic catering company, providing food and applying production methods of the highest handmade organic and sustainable standards. It’s not just about organic and fair trade procurement, but also about the steps taken in all areas of business management to minimise the impact the business has on the planet.
FACILITATION:
Adam Jorlen, Futurist, co-founder enkel
