Event Description

This Sunday 15th of October join Cultivating Community and Open Table for a delicious wood fired pizza lunch at the Fitzroy Community Food Centre and Community Garden.

Come along from 1pm to make your own pizza and share in a spread of salads and roast veggies with others in the community, and then stay for a screening of the feature documentary ‘Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story’(2014)  at 3pm in the community meeting space (next door to the kitchen).

Food has donated by FareShare, Secondbite, Cultivating Community and local businesses, and has been considered ‘surplus’, and would have otherwise gone to waste. The event seeks to raise awareness about the issue of food waste, but also celebrate the ways in which we can reduce it together and create a more fair and sustainable food system. The event is entirely free.

Short description—organiser

Open Table shares free meals to those in need in neighborhoods across Melbourne. We use surplus food that would otherwise be thrown away and turn it into nutritious meals to share with the community, in order to reduce food insecurity and food waste.

Cultivating Community's mission is to work with diverse and low-income communities to create fair, secure and resilient food systems. Our purpose is to provide relief from poverty for public and community housing tenants and others living in poverty in Victoria through improving access to healthy, affordable and culturally appropriate food.
